Freelance time tracking

Track billable time and turn it straight into an invoice.

Use the timer when a job is billed by the hour, or add the time afterwards. Keep it against the client and project, then add eligible unbilled hours directly to an invoice.

No separate time-tracking app required for the odd hourly job. Time tracking is optional.

Start a timer or add finished time later.

How it works

Track the job, then invoice the hours.

The time-to-invoice flow is built for a client who occasionally needs hourly billing, without adding a dedicated time-tracking subscription.

  1. 01

Start a timer or add time later

Run the timer while you work, or enter a finished block of time when a live timer was not useful.

  2. 02

Keep the time with the client

Associate the entry with the client, optional project and time category, then add a description and date.

  3. 03

    Mark what is billable

Keep actual duration separate from billable duration when a billing increment applies, and use the saved hourly rate.

  4. 04

Add eligible time to an invoice

Select stopped, billable, client-assigned and unallocated time. Zinvoice creates the invoice line from the duration and rate.

Lightweight time tracking

Track the odd hourly job without another app.

Time tracking is for occasional billable work, not employee monitoring. Start one timer, move around the app while it runs, or add the finished time manually afterwards.

  • Timer or manual entry
  • Actual and billable time
  • Client, project and category association
  • Filters for billing state, client, project and date
Use a timer when hourly work needs it, then review the recorded entries.

Time to invoice

Turn tracked hours into invoice lines.

When time is stopped, billable, assigned to the same client and not already allocated, select it while creating a draft invoice. The saved duration, billing increment and hourly rate become the invoice line.

  • See unbilled time from the client or project
  • Select eligible entries for the correct client
  • Keep allocated time linked to the invoice
  • Avoid typing the hours into the invoice again
Eligible unbilled time can be added directly while creating the invoice.

Included when you need it

Time tracking that stays optional.

Use these controls when the job needs billable hours. Leave them alone when you charge a fixed fee.

Actual time and billable time are not always the same.

Keep the actual duration recorded while applying a billing increment to the billable duration where the job requires it.

See what has not been invoiced yet.

Filter for unbilled time and review the entries that are ready to be allocated to an invoice.

Do not need time tracking? Do not use it.

Invoices do not require time entries, and fixed-price projects can use project records without a timer.

Use saved rates and categories.

Set account or client rates, use an individual rate when needed, and group entries with reusable time categories.

Track time only when it belongs in the job.

Projects and time tracking are optional. You can invoice a client directly without creating a project or recording time.
